Corporate Volunteers for our Environment

In recent years, Corporate Social Responsibility has become a real focus for many businesses. This involves an ongoing commitment by business to help improve the quality of life of its workforce, the local community and society in general.

The natural environment, such as our parks, rivers and bushland areas, contribute greatly to our quality of life. Bushland areas help to reduce noise, air and visual pollution, and create a feeling of peace and space. They provide a space for adventure, exercise or quiet contemplation. Bushland also provides habitat for native plant and animal species.

Lane Cove is fortunate to have 90 hectares of bushland under the care, control and management of Council. In fact, all homes in Lane Cove are located within 500 metres of bushland. This certainly makes Lane Cove an attractive place in which to live.

Corporate volunteer program

Lane Cove Council’s Bushcare program caters for businesses looking for opportunities to contribute to the community by helping protect and improve our natural environment.

There are two main projects which you can become involved in. These are:

  • Plant propagation at Lane Cove Community Nursery

Here, volunteers help to propagate thousands of local native plants for local Council and Bushcare revegetation projects.Activities including processing and sowing seed, potting up plants and other Nursery duties.

  • Bush regeneraton at Stoney Gully

Lying adjacent to the Community Nursery, this degraded bushland gully is being restored through a revegetation project, using plants from the Nursery. Activities include bush regeneration and occasionally planting.

Other bush regeneration and planting projects can be devised with some preparation.

Details for corporate volunteering

To assist with logistics, we ask that you give approximately 4 weeks notice for your requested dates.

Ideal group numbers range from 3 – 20 (max). At times, it may be possible to cater for larger numbers depending on the projects available.

Volunteers will need to wear sturdy footwear (no thongs/sandals), gloves, suitable gardening clothing (long pants and sleeves are recommended) and bring a hat, sunscreen and water.

Lane Cove Council provides all tools and materials needed, as well as staff to provide instruction and supervision for the activity.
