Ordinary Caterpillar

Eric Carle was correct – caterpillars are very hungry; they are tiny eating machines!  Caterpillars spend most of their time chomping leaves before undergoing an amazing metamorphosis into a moth or butterfly.  Join us for a bushwalk to learn a little bit about caterpillars, who really aren't ordinary at all!

Lunar New Year in the Plaza

At this special 2020 Lunar New Year celebration, Lane Cove will bring in the Year of the Rat. The event will include live entertainment, a red packet making workshop with Gallery Lane Cove, kids activities and a spectacular lion dance by Pak Hok Kung Fu. Free event.

Water Bug Blitz
Saturday 8 February, 9:00am – 11:00am, Batten Reserve, Lane Cove North
Grab a dip net and magnifying glass and join in the Water Bug Blitz to discover which aquatic creatures are living in our creeks! These tiny creatures are great indicators of waterway health, so any water bugs you collect will provide useful information about our creeks. A great Citizen Science program for all the family to be involved with! All equipment and guidance provided by Council. RSVP essential.

Healthy Heart Cooking Demonstration

Military History Talk – Milne Bay 1942
Tuesday 18 February, 6:15pm – 7:45pm, Lane Cove Library
In August 1942 Australian soldiers engaged the Japanese Army in the Battle of Milne Bay (Papua New Guinea). Milne Bay would become the first major battle in the Second World War where allied troops defeated Japanese land forces decisively. It was also the first time men of the AIF fought alongside young conscripts of the militia and the first time an Australian division was commanded by a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon. Rowan Tracey, Kokoda historian, will discuss the Battle of Milne Bay and the impact the battle had on the war in the Pacific. Rowan served in the Australian military for 23 years, first walked the Kokoda Track 30 years ago and has a particular interest in higher military command structures throughout the World War Two Papua New Guinea campaign.

Sustainable Food Garden Tour at Moss House
Thursday 20 February, 10:00am - 12:00pm, meet at the bottom of the footbridge near the Aquatic Centre, Little Street, Lane Cove. The bus will take you to and from the garden in Denistone.
Join us as we tour The Moss House garden, an example of a vibrant, sustainable permaculture property which has been established for more than a decade, designed with the primary goal to provide the owners with food and medicinal plants. You will have an opportunity to see elements of permaculture garden design in action and to taste some of the produce grown on the site. The garden is on a steep site and this tour is not suitable for people with mobility restrictions.

Bushland Park Nature Experience

Wildlife Walk

Join wildlife ecologist Narawan Williams for a guided walk along the Littoral Rainforest of Stringybark Creek, currently being restored through bush regeneration. Take a closer look at nest boxes and the local wildlife that call Batten Reserve home. This is a medium grade walk, with stairs and uneven surfaces. This project has been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust.

Leap Year Litter Kayak
