2013 Senior Road Safety Calendar

In an effort to raise awareness to our senior community about how to stay safe on our roads, Lane Cove Council, in partnership with eight other councils, have produced the 2013 Senior Road Safety Calendar.

Older road users are particularly vulnerable and as the population ages, there will also be an increase in older road user injuries and fatalities.

The calendar has a positive safety message every month and a list of emergency phone numbers.

When and where can I collect my free calendar?

The calendars will be available from Council's customer service desk.
If you have any enquiries about this project please contact Council's Road Safety Officer on 9911 3576.

Council would like to thank the volunteers, retirement villages, seniors groups and other business for their continued support of this project.

Senior Drivers Seminar

Earlier this year Lane Cove Council organised a Free Senior Drivers workshop. 61 people attended the course at Lane Cove Library.

The drivers workshop covered topics including;

  • Risk factors for older drivers
  • Understanding speed and braking – the 3 second rule
  • Avoiding common crashes using low risk driving
  • Car parks and reversing safety
  • Correct driving position
  • Preparing for the aged assessment
  • Negotiating roundabouts
  • Changes to NSW road rules

Each participant was given a folder packed with useful information.

Participants were encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop.

Comments from the evaluations included;

‘This has been the best workshop that I have ever attended’

‘The facilitator knew her subject well and presented it well’

‘This was excellent and should be presented to many groups’

‘An excellent presentation, clear PowerPoint presentation, clear speech and a sense of humour! All very good’
