Following frequent
concerns from the community about feral animals, a control program
will be implemented in 2001. This program will target the large
numbers of rabbits breeding around the Carrisbrook House and old
bowling club area at Burns Bay Rd, and foxes in the bush land area
north of Blackman Park. The population of these feral animals are
increasing, resulting in damage to the parks and surrounds and loss
of wildlife, in particular birds and possums.
Rabbits - proposed control method
The Rural Lands Protection Boards will implement a program to control
the rabbit population. This program will take place in all areas
where the rabbit have their warrens and feed. The Rural Lands Protection
Board will notify residents. and all adjoining neighbours at least
3 days before the commencement of the program. Notifications of
the program will be put up in and around the properties, which will
remain up for at least 4 weeks.
Foxes - proposed control method
Foxes are schedules as a Key Threatening Process under the Threatened
Species Conservation Act, as they are major predators of wildlife.
A fox control program has been running in neigbouring areas for
the past year as part of the Sydney North Regional Fox Control Program.
Fox control will be done in designated areas under a permit from
NSW Agriculture. The program shall take place at least 150m from
any residential dwelling. Public notifications and advertisements
will inform the community of the program.
