The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (DIA) legislates that Local Government is to undertake disability inclusion action planning and develop and implement a plan of action to ensure the plans come into effect. This plan aims to make Lane Cove a better place for people living with disability to live, work and visit by developing positive community attitudes and behaviours, creating liveable communities, supporting access to meaningful employment and Improving access to services through better systems and processes.
Council worked with Ryde and Hunters Hill Councils to develop a regional plan with localised actions. The community was consulted between 25 March and 5 May. The actions were developed from the responses of 749 people who participated though either small group consultations, surveys, community forums and one on one discussion.
Council is now consulting with the community on a proposal to adopt the Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The Plan will be implemented over the next four years. It is based on the feedback from the community on ways to make Lane Cove more inclusive for people with disability and will be based on all of Council approach to implement the actions.
A further report addressing any submissions received during the consultation period will be prepared for consideration by Council at an upcoming Council Meeting.
