1,162 street lights across the Lane Cove area are being upgraded to new LED lamps, as Council partners with Ausgrid to rollout more energy efficient streetlights. It can take up to 95 watts to power older streetlights, with LED lamps using just 17 watts. In addition to being more cost-effective and requiring less maintenance, LED lights are expected to last up to 20 years. The roll-out is funded by Council's Sustainability Levy and is being conducted by Ausgrid. It is starting with minor residential roads before moving on to major roads in the next phase of the program.
It is not expected that there will be any other associated works required to replace most lamps with most upgrades taking around 30 minutes to complete. As of April 2020 the project is almost complete, with the last replacements expected to be finalised soon.
