1,162 street lights across the Lane Cove area will be upgraded to new LED lamps as Council partners with Ausgrid to rollout more energy efficient streetlights. It can currently take up to 95 watts to power older streetlights, with LED lamps using just 17 watts. In addition to being more cost-effective and requiring less maintenance, LED lights are expected to last up to 20 years. The roll-out is funded by Council's Sustainability Levy and is being conducted by Ausgrid. It is expected to get underway in the coming months, starting with minor residential roads then major roads in the next phase of the program.
It is not expected that there will be any other associated works required to replace most lamps with most upgrades taking around 30 minutes to complete. Council is currently awaiting a finalised date for the project to officially commence.
