Memorial Ceremony
'Journey of the Spirit'
In the presence of Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC
Governor of NSW
This ceremony is layered in
meaning.
Traditionally it releases the spirits of the Cameraygal dead who
were denied their religious funeral rites by reason of the British invasion.
Ceremony releases them from limbo; their spirits free at last to
reach their home in the stars to begin their rebirth.
This Ceremony acknowledges the
truths of our shared Australian history;
Recognition and Truth are the beginning of all Reconciliation.
Prior to the unveiling of the
Reconciliation Memorial Plaque there will be a Sacred Smoking Ceremony, a Song
of Mourning
and a
Dance of Mourning
