Australian Citizenship

 

Application for Australian Citizenship must be made through the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous (DIMIA). Application forms are available from Lane Cove Council or:

The completed application form is to be lodged with the DIMIA and the Applicant will be required to attend an interview at DIMIA.

After the Applicant has been accepted for Australian Citizenship they will be advised by the DIMIA of the next available date for attendance at a formal Citizenship Ceremony. Citizenship Ceremonies for 20 to 30 Applicants are held on a regular basis at 7.00pm in the Council Chamber. The Mayor officiates at the Ceremony and administers the Pledge of Allegiance. After the Applicant swears the Pledge of Allegiance to Australia before the Mayor, they are presented with their Australian Citizenship Certificate and are granted all the rights, privileges and obligations of those who were born in Australia.
