Living in the Area » Australian Citizenship   Application for Australian Citizenship must be made through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Application forms are available from www.citizenship.gov.au or you can call the Department on 131 880. After the Applicant has been accepted for Australian Citizenship, he/she will be advised by the Department of Immigaration and Citizenship of the next available date for attendance at a formal Citizenship Ceremony. Citizenship Ceremonies for 20 to 30 Applicants are held on a regular basis at 7.00pm in the Council Chamber. The Mayor officiates at the Ceremony and administers the Pledge of Allegiance. After the Applicant swears the Pledge of Allegiance to Australia before the Mayor, he/she is presented with an Australian Citizenship Certificate and is granted all the rights, privileges and obligations of those who were born in Australia.
