Council is currently looking at options for the renewal of the Meeting
House facility located in Stokes Street, Lane Cove North. Currently
Meeting House provides meeting facilities and child care (Preschool)
for the Lane Cove North neighbourhood community. It is proposed
to provide an expanded Meeting House service with larger meeting
spaces and a larger child care facility (Preschool/Long Day Care).
Council
recently prepared an Architects
Brief which led to the appointment of Malone Campbell-Allen
as architects to examine a number of options. Council is looking
at funding this project by including residential apartments which
will be sold to offset the cost of providing the new and improved
faciliites.
A public meeting was held on Tuesday 21 November 2006 to provide
information to the general community, following initial consultation
with the Meeting House Board.
The following
document was presented at the evening: -
In addition
Council has prepared the following audio files of the proceedings
of the evening in MP3 format:-
The
next step will be to consider the issues raised and report back
to Council on a number of issues which could affect the options
being considered by the Architects. It is expected that a further
public meeting will be held by early February 2007 to outline how
issues raised have been considered and addressed. If you would like
further information about this project, you can stay
informed via Council's Enewsletters.
The development application for Meeting House which provides for a community meeting area, 40 place long day or preschool child care centre and 6 residential units is currently being assessed by an independent assessor. His assessment, when received, and any issues addressed, will be reported to Council for determination.
