Bushcare in Lane Cove

Bushland Park

One of Lane Cove's larger bushland areas, this area is a part of the National Estate due to the presence of a threatened ecological community of Hygrophoraceae fungi. It also contains a diverse vegetation community through which Gore Creek flows. The Bushcare group here works at several different sites, rotating each month, tackling areas of weed infestation in this lovely remnant bushland.

DETAILS:
Meets on the 4th Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meeting locations rotate regularly, please contact the Bushcare Co-ordinator for details.

Cope St

This group works on a quiet entry point to the popular bushwalk in Lovetts Reserve along the Lane Cove River. This site has a scenic river vista, as it lies along the top edge of the foreshore bushland. The group has been tackling the weed infestation here and assisting natural regeneration by planting local indigenous plants along the top of the slope.

DETAILS:
Meet on the 4th Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 3.00pm
Meet at the cul-de-sac at the western end of Cope St, Lane Cove.

Dorritt St

In 2002, two groups formed to start their bushcare work at this site, with great results to date. A creek flows through this site, underneath a canopy of Turpentine and Peppermint Gum. The Monday group works along the slope adjacent to Phoenix St, whilst the Saturday group focuses on the bushland area at the corner of Dorritt St and Phoenix St and on the opposite side of the creek.

DETAILS:
The Monday group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet at the Bush Regeneration sign along Phoenix St, near corner of Dorritt St, Lane Cove.

The Saturday group meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet at the bush track entry near the corner of Dorritt St and Phoenix St, Lane Cove.

Tennyson Park

This group works in a lovely remnant bushland area with Sydney Red Gums, Blackbutts and Turpentines dominating the tree tops. Tannery Creek runs through the centre of the reserve and there is a lot of bird life found here. Sections of the reserve suffer from minor to heavy weed infestation and the Bushcare group has contributed greatly to environmental improvements near the Best St entrance in particular.

DETAILS:
Meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet at the Best St entrance to the reserve.

Fox Street

Formed in 2006, this group is working on the eastern side of Tennyson Park. Large Blackbutts dominate the site, which is heavily infested with woody weeds such as Privet and Ochna. The group has made an instant impact by targeting the weedy understorey. There should be some fantastic natural regeneration over the coming year!

DETAILS:
Meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
1.00pm - 4.00pm
Meet at the dead end of Fox St, Lane Cove.

Upper Stringybark Creek

There are two groups working along the upper reaches of Stringybark Creek. This site contains Lane Cove's only area of Blue Gum High Forest, with several magnificent Sydney Blue Gums dominating the tree canopy. The groups are tackling heavy weed infestation at the top part of the creek and have made some great progress to date.

DETAILS:
The Saturday group meets on the 4th Saturday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet at the dead end of Murray St, Lane Cove.

One of the groups at Upper Stringybark Creek is the Under-35's Bushcare group which formed in August 2005. This new group is ideal for the younger generation to get involved in a practical environmental project as well as being a great social network!

DETAILS:

The Under-35's group meets on the 4th Sunday of every month
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet at the dead end of Murray St. Lane Cove.

Osborne Park

The newest group in Lane Cove officially started in May 2007. This group work in a lovely bushland site underneath beautiful Sydney Red Gums and Turpentines. This site will respond very well to bush regeneration, particularly once the woody weeds are gone. It promises to show some exciting results!

DETAILS:
Meets on the 2nd Monday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet outside 78 Osborne Rd, Lane Cove, near the cul-de-sac.
