Road Safety Program in Lane Cove

In 2003, Council joined the Roads and Traffic Authority’s Road Safety program by employing a Road Safety Officer. The primary role of this Officer is to improve community awareness and participation in reducing the incidence and severity of road trauma in the Lane Cove LGA through effective education programs.

The target areas are:

• Drink driving
• Driver fatigue in the workplace
• Speeding
• Young children
• Safety in school zones
• Pedestrian safety
• Young drivers
• Parents and supervisors of learner drivers
• Senior drivers and pedestrians

Start Safe, Stay Safe: A Strategic Plan for Road Safety identifies a series of actions for integration into Council’s Annual Management Plan. It provides the framework and direction with which Council can realistically attempt to reduce the number and severity of injury crashes that occur in the Lane Cove Local Government Area (LGA) every year.
