Council has unfortunately had to bring forward the closure date of the 50m outdoor pool at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre.
Due to urgent safety concerns the 50m pool will be closed from Monday 17 December 2018.
While Council had been preparing for the closure of the pool in 2019, pool experts and engineers have observed such a rapid decline in recent weeks that they have deemed the pool is not safe for public use.
Evidently adverse weather conditions including drought and heavy rains has accelerated the pool’s decline with changes moving from weekly to daily occurrences. Part of the pool’s water supply will be drained early next week to ensure the area can be stabilised before the Christmas break.
The decision to close the pool ahead of schedule has not been made lightly however pool experts, structural engineers, Council staff and the Aquatic Centre agree that public safety is a top priority. As a result activities scheduled post-Christmas have been cancelled and BlueFit has been making contact with those schools and swim clubs involved.
Council has already commenced planning for the replacement works with indicative timing to be available in early 2019.
The latest information will be available at www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/poolandgrandstand.
