The Northern Districts Inclusion Award recognises and celebrates businesses that incorporate an inclusive approach for all customers through their business design, culture, advertising, recruitment, training and customer service.
A socially inclusive business recognises that every person matters, regardless of their circumstances. The inclusion award gives customers, staff and business owners the opportunity to nominate and reward local businesses for their inclusive efforts.
Some good examples of inclusive practices include:
- Continually thinking of ways to improve and provide training for your staff so that they can meet the needs of the community i.e. people with disability, seniors, and people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
- Making your business as accessible as possible i.e. consider your seating layout, install ramps, grab rails, wider doors, ‘rest stop’ seating and quieter spaces, visual guides and signage, making sure that service or pay points in your business have reduced noise levels and are clutter free.
- Exploring employing people from a wide and varying talent pool within the community.
