If
you like the outdoors and would like to learn more about sustainable
gardening, indigenous plants or bushcare, consider getting involved
in Lane
Cove's Community Nursery.
The
Lane Cove Community Nursery and Eco garden opened in June 2005 and was funded by the State Government's “Our Environment - it's a living thing" program.
As part of Council's Sustainability Action Plan, Think Global
Act Local , this Community Nursery centre includes a propagation
nursery and Eco garden. The nursery
has a propagation shed, rainwater tank, polyhouse and shade house
curently in use.
Volunteers at the Nursery have helped to propagate over 10,000 plants since June 2005. These plants are going towards Council parks and bushland projects, community and local Bushcare groups.
The
opening hours for the Community Nursery are:
- Each Friday between 10.30am and 3.30pm, and
- 1st Saturday of the month, 9.00am - 12 noon
where you are welcome to visit and participate
in nursery activities.
We ask that you RSVP your intention to
visit where possible to assist with organisation.
Council
is further developing the Eco garden and sustainability workshop area. Click here to find out about upcoming activities.
The
nursery project has also been supported by the Lane Cove Bushland & Conservation Society which received a Federal grant under
the Envirofund program to work towards the regeneration and revegetation
of the nursery's surrounding bushland area. Their bush regeneration work has assisted in the restoration of this bushland, which is now being continued by the Stoney Gully / Eco garden group.
The
Lane Cove Community Nursery and Eco garden is adjacent to the Blackman Park Scout Hall, via a short bush walk from the car park in Lloyd Rees Drive, Lane Cove West. Disabled
access only is available from Banksia Close, as parking in this
area is limited. For more information, phone the Bushcare Co-ordinator on 9911 3579 or email bushcare@lanecove.nsw.gov.au
