Community Groups

There are an number of community groups in the Lane Cove area that are focused on creating a more sustainable community.

Permaculture Sydney North - Lane Cove

Permaculture Sydney North is a rapidly-growing group of over 400 members in the north of Sydney. As the group grew larger, local groups were also set up. The Lane Cove group is a dynamic and diverse group of people, interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle. It meets at 2pm on the second Saturday of every month, holds working and craft bees, swaps seedlings, produce etc. and shares ideas. Our dream is eating local and our passion is eating well! The group is enthusiastically collaborating in setting up a community garden in Lane Cove.

Greenwich Community Association - Environmental Sustainability Sub-Committee

In February 2010 the Greenwich Community Association established its Environmental Sustainability Sub-Committee (“the ESS”).  The objectives of the ESS are to develop and implement projects consistent with the objects and rules of the Greenwich Community Association (“GCA”) to:

  1. Increase awareness in the community of  ways to support environmental sustainability at the individual and household level.
  2. Promote environmental  sustainability.
  3. Progress environmental sustainability opportunities relevant to the community.
  4. Identify projects, through community consultation, in which members of the community will be interested in participating.

The ESS has begun working on its first task: to engage the local community in the development of an environmental sustainability plan that will improve the environment of Greenwich, and achieve an increase in household adoption and support of sustainable practices and behaviours.

Lane Cove Solar Team

The Lane Cove Solar Team is a community action group working to encourage Lane Cove residents to install solar panels on their roofs. As opposed to coal-generated electricity, solar power does not emit greenhouse gases and does not therefore contribute to climate change. There are excellent government incentives at the moment to go solar. We believe that by doing so, residents can help not only the environment but also profit financially. We are currently showing how and supporting residents of Austin St, Austin Crescent and Morrice St to go solar. We would welcome anyone interested in helping us.
