After reviewing programs at a number other Councils, Lane Cove Council has developed a Rainwater Tank Rebate Scheme which makes it easier for residents to install a rainwater tank.

The scheme provides qualifying residents with a rebate of up to $550* to install a rainwater tank and have it plumbed-in to either the toilet and/or the washing machine. Using rainwater to flush your toilet and wash your clothes can reduce your water bill by up to 30%.
The Lane Cove Council rebate is for up to $550 calculated as follows:

This rebate is available to residents who have installed a tank (tank rebate) or connected an existing tank (connection rebate) on or after 1st July 2007.
How do I apply for a rebate?
To apply for a rebate you will need:
- To complete a Rainwater Tank Rebate Application Form
- To send a copy of the plumber's invoice showing the tank and/or connection, the date of installation and the address where the tank was installed.

*Conditions Apply. Maximum rebate is $550. Tank must be installed on or after 1 July 2007. Rebate is calculated on combined tank capacity. The applicant must be an owner of the residential property where the tank is installed. Rainwater tanks installed to comply with BASIX are not eligible for a rebate.

Lane Cove Council, in conjunction with other Councils in the northern Sydney region, has developed the Climate Clever Shop to make it easier for residents to install water and energy saving technologies at discounted rates. Products chosen for inclusion in the Climate Clever Shop have been assessed for the quality of the product, level of service offered by the supplier, and value for residents.

Council's rainwater tank rebates are in addition to the rebates currently offered by the Department of Environment and Climate Change and administed in the Sydney region by Sydney Water*. Under this program, residents may be eligible for the following rebates.

Rainwater tanks and greywater systems purchased after 30 January 2009 may also be eligible for a rebate under the Australian Government's National Rainwater and Greywater Initiaitve*. To be eligible, rainwater tanks must be internally connected for toilet and/or laundry use.
