Background

Shauna is a secondary school geography teacher with a background in design and manufacturing. She has lived in Lane Cove for over 25 years and has four adult children who attended local government and Catholic schools.

Shauna was a founding member of Lane Cove Women’s’ Action and Information Group, is an active member of Lane Cove’s Bushland and Conservation Society and also RASAD, a residents group promoting appropriate development through submissions to council.

Shauna previously worked at Lane Cove’s Centrehouse and for TAFE with adult and children’s community outreach and indigenous education in Redfern, and on projects with Anangu Pitjantjatjara women in South Australia.

Shauna’s early interest in social justice issues was a result of joining Father Ted Kennedy in actively protesting against the Springbok’s Australian tour during the apartheid era in South Africa and meeting Aboriginal people. While protesting against the importation of rainforest timber and indigenous loss of land, she met Lee Rhiannon, who later became NSW Greens MP.

Shauna’s early interest in urban design, heritage and ecological sustainability is the result of witnessing the very positive ideas and results of Ted Mack as previous Mayor of North Sydney.

Why I stood for Council

Shauna believes we need our Greens on council because they are primarily a voice for the community as they are not compromised by developer or corporation donations. Shauna would like to contribute to Council’s job of achieving a healthier, transparent, more sustainable built, ecological, economic and social environment for residents and the wider community.

Organisations

Shauna is a member of The Greens, NSW Institute of Teachers, The Teachers Federation, The Geography Teacher’s Assoc., The Society and Culture Assoc. Inc., RASAD, The Lane Cove Bushland and Conservation Society, Lane Cove Residents for Reconcillation, Amnesty, Plan International, Medicines Sans Frontiers, Australian Conservation Foundation, The Wilderness Society, The NRMA.
