Draft VPA 21–41 Canberra Avenue and 18-32 Holdsworth Avenue St Leonards

Council is consulting with the community on a Draft Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) in relation to the provision of Local Infrastructure within a part of the St Leonards South Precinct.

The Draft VPA is associated with a Development Application (DA99/2021) for five (5) residential flat buildings (ranging from 6 to 10 storeys) comprising a total of 319 apartments, 10 terraces and basement parking for 372 Vehicles, at 21-41 Canberra Avenue and 18-32 Holdsworth Avenue, St Leonards (also known as Area 7 to 11).

Planning Proposal Nicholson Street

Council is exhibiting a Planning Proposal which we have received for a new commercial office building at 46-52 Nicholson Street and 59-67 Christie Street, St Leonards.

The proposed Local Environmental Plan amendments for the site seek to increase the building height to RL 175.2 metres and the floor space ratio to 15:1. This would potentially allow for a future commercial office building of 26 storeys.

This consultation is in accordance with the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 & Regulation 2000 and the associated Gateway Determination. The Planning Minister has delegated authority of his proposal to Council as the local plan-making authority.

Consultation will run from Friday 25 June 2021 to Friday 6 August 2021

Draft Dog Strategy

Last year Council resolved to develop a Dog Friendly Lane Cove Strategy as a proactive way to approach the future provision of our dog friendly spaces.

As part of developing the Strategy, earlier this year Council asked the community for feedback on a range of priorities and concerns. This was then reviewed along with information from drop-in sessions held at local dog off-leash areas as well as meetings with key stakeholders. Background data from existing Council plans and strategies was also reviewed in conjunction with NSW state legislation such as the Companion Animals Act, 1998 and best practice from other dog strategies in local Council areas.

A Draft Dog Strategy has now been developed to guide Council's future priorities and all members of the community are encouraged to have their say.

This consultation will run from Wednesday 23 June to Wednesday 4 August 2021.

Draft Climate Resilience Plan

Council is currently consulting with the community on its Draft Climate Resilience Plan.

Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 in recognition of the potential threats and impacts of the changing climate. This year, Council made a commitment to develop a Climate Resilience Plan to identify local climate shocks, community stressors and risks in response to the changing climate.

The increasing occurrence and intensity of extreme weather events is predicted to impact Lane Cove. Being prepared for climate shocks has multiple benefits. It means we can reduce the economic, social and environmental costs of disasters resulting from disruptions to Council's services, our community and impacts on our natural environment.

To increase our level of resilience and emergency preparedness, Council has prepared a Draft Climate Resilience Plan which includes goals, targets and actions we can work towards over the next five years.

Consultation will run from Wednesday 23 June 2021 to Wednesday 4 August 2021.
