Wild About Lane Cove Launch Event

Sunday 2 April, 10:00am – 12:00pm, Mindarie Park, Lane Cove North

Get up close and personal with our native animals and explore Stringybark Creek at this free event. There'll be a wildlife show at 10:00am followed by a free sausage sizzle and guided bushwalks at 11:00am.

Don't forget to bring your camera and get started with the Wild About Lane Cove challenge.

Join a free, small and friendly English class. These classes aim to improve English conversation skills for people with English as a second language. You will cover everyday conversation and information about Australian society, culture and customs.

10:00am – 11:30am Beginner English class – suitable for absolute beginners
12:30pm – 1:30pm Elementary Conversation – some spoken English required
1:30pm – 2:45pm Intermediate Conversation – suitable for more confident speakers.

Military History Talk – Colonial Australia: Arrival of Frederick Whirlpool VC

Hear eminent military historian Lieutenant-Colonel Rowan Tracey (Rtd), discuss Frederick Whirlpool's life; the tragic circumstances that lead to his Victoria Cross; and the role ex-British soldiers, such as Whirlpool, played in the settlement of colonial Australia.

Cricut Upcycling with Decorative Decals 

Friday 28 April, 2:30pm – 4:30pm, Lane Cove Library 

Join us as we use the Cricut, a computer cutting machine, to upcycle some glass jars into pantry perfection using premium vinyl. In this hands-on workshop we will learn how to use Design Space software, we will then weed and attach our design to a glass jar with transfer tape. Bring along your own jar to upcycle. For adults.

Illustration workshop with Aura Parker 

Thursday 20 April, 2:00pm – 3:00pm, Lane Cove Library

Draw along with author and illustrator Aura Parker in this interactive workshop as she shows you how to draw characters and shares insights into the process for creating picture books. Experiment with charcoal and watch Aura's watercolour demonstration. Plus learn about real glow worms, meerkats, bowerbirds and lots of the creatures that inspire her stories! For ages 4-10.

Key Word Sign Language workshop

Come along to our introductory Key Word sign language workshop. Learn songs, names, games, and read books to develop this important skill. Key word sign language uses signs from Auslan and natural gestures to support communication and improve social interaction. For ages 7-14. Limited places, bookings essential.
