New Return and Earn Bin Baskets Installed Across Lane Cove
Published on 28 May 2026
Lane Cove Council has installed 20 new Return and Earn bin baskets on public bins across the local area to improve recycling in public places and help keep eligible bottles and cans out of landfill.
The bin baskets have been attached to Council bins in high-traffic locations, including Bob Campbell Oval, Tambourine Bay Reserve, Wadangarri Park, Blackman Park, Yorks Corner, Mindarie Park, outside IGA Burns Bay Road and outside Lane Cove Council Chambers.
The bin baskets allow people to leave eligible drink containers for other residents and community groups to collect and recycle to redeem the 10-cent refund at a nearby Return and Earn return point.
The initiative follows a successful trial by Return and Earn scheme coordinator Exchange for Change, which found the baskets reduced drink containers entering public bins and landfill by up to 80 per cent.
Across NSW, more than 15 billion drink containers have been returned through the network of over 660 return points, putting more than $1.5 billion in container refunds back into the community.
Lane Cove residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 72 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the NSW Return and Earn began in 2017.
There are currently two Return and Earn return points in Lane Cove. Visit returnandearn.org.au to find your nearest location.
