The Local Environmental Plan (LEP), which provides the legislative context for development controls within the Lane Cove Local Government Area, was introduced on 19 February 2009.

Council recently consulted with the community, in accordance with Clause 57 of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, on a proposal to amend the LEP in relation to 1-5 Birdwood Avenue, Lane Cove. This amendment only related to the car park area of the Lane Cove Club and would rezone the site from B2 Local Centre to B4 Mixed Use to provide more flexibility in the allocation of retail, commercial and/or residential uses. The scale (e.g. height and floor space) of development was not proposed to change.

What Next?

A further report was considered at the Ordinary Council meeting of 20 May 2013 where Council resolved to approve the Planning Proposal to rezone 1-5 Birdwood Avenue from B2 Local Centre to B4 Mixed Use, as exhibited, for final notification.

The NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure officially gazetted this amendment. The amendment is effective from Friday 6 September 2013.

The amendment included changes to the Land Zoning Map.
