Melbourne Cup Screening
In a notice of motion at the 29 September 2022 meeting, Clrs Flood and Southwood moved that Council should not screen, promote or advertise the Melbourne Cup at The Canopy, The Plaza or any Council open spaces from 2023 onwards. And further, that Council should investigate other events or activities in The Plaza on Cup Day that better align with community and family values and help drives business/trade in The Plaza.

A community workshop was held at the Lane Cove Golf Clubhourse on 17 December 2022 where AJ+C Architects, designers of the Sport and Recreation Precinct presented the draft concept designs for an 8 Court facility. Draft Sustainability Action Plan
With the current Sustainability Action Plan expiring, Council conducted a community-wide survey in late 2021/early 2022 to identify the community's sustainability values and to obtain insights on key issues, gaps, challenges, needs and opportunities regarding sustainability and the environment in Lane Cove. The feedback was used to shape the draft actions addressing the natural and built environment, community engagement, economic sustainability, energy, society, sustainable transport and water in the Draft Sustainability Action Plan 2022 – 2025. Shortlisted Names for St Leonards New Green Space
In May 2021 Council received a report which included the process for the permanent naming of the exciting new green space project at St Leonards which has commonly been referred to as St Leonards Plaza. The community were asked to make suggestions for appropriate names for the space which are local, meaningful, inclusive and conform with the principles set out by the Geographical Names Board. Council reviewed the community suggestions received in 2021 and is now ready to hear the community's preferences from the below shortlist of five names. The consultation period closed on 20 May 2022

Under the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, councils are required to have a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and to review this DIAP every 4 years. Disability Inclusion Action Plans are designed to outline practical steps that can be put into place to break down barriers, promote access to services, information and employment, and promote the rights of people with disability. Lane Cove Council - Sport & Recreation Precinct
Council remains focused on delivering much needed multi-court sports facilities in the Lane Cove LGA to meet increasing demand for sports such as netball, basketball and tennis. Council is currently pursuing the following three options for the provision of courts:
1. Redevelopment of the Lane Cove Golf Club 2. Identifying alternate sites, primarily in the Lane Cove West Business Park 3. Joint venture with Willoughby Council that includes their proposed Gore Hill development
The community is being asked to provide their feedback on the current options and are encouraged to join a community workshop related to the Business Case for the Sport and Recreation Facility.

Community Dog Advisory Committee
Council is currently undertaking the first stage of a forming a Community Dog Advisory Committee. To help convene this new advisory committee Council will be hosting a workshop with residents to have direct input into how the committee will operate. The workshop is an opportunity for the community to determine how the Advisory Committee will operate; this will then inform the role, functions, objectives of the Committee.

Planning Proposal Nicholson Street
Council exhibited a Planning Proposal which we have received for a new commercial office building at 46-52 Nicholson Street and 59-67 Christie Street, St Leonards.
The proposed Local Environmental Plan amendments for the site seek to increase the building height to RL 175.2 metres and the floor space ratio to 15:1. This would potentially allow for a future commercial office building of 26 storeys. This consultation is in accordance with the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 & Regulation 2000 and the associated Gateway Determination. The Planning Minister has delegated authority of his proposal to Council as the local plan-making authority.

Draft Climate Resilience Plan
Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 in recognition of the potential threats and impacts of the changing climate. This year, Council made a commitment to develop a Climate Resilience Plan to identify local climate shocks, community stressors and risks in response to the changing climate.

Draft Dog Strategy
In 2020 Council resolved to develop a Dog Friendly Lane Cove Strategy as a proactive way to approach the future provision of our dog friendly spaces. As part of developing the Strategy, earlier this year Council asked the community for feedback on a range of priorities and concerns. This was then reviewed along with information from drop-in sessions held at local dog off-leash areas as well as meetings with key stakeholders. Background data from existing Council plans and strategies was also reviewed in conjunction with NSW state legislation such as the Companion Animals Act, 1998 and best practice from other dog strategies in local Council areas.

Greenwich Shops Upgrade (Stage 3) - Wardrop Street As part of Council’s Neighbourhood Shopping Centre Improvement Program a landscape concept plan was developed for the Greenwich Shopping Precinct, specifically the Wardrop Street area which was upgraded as the third and final stage of the precinct upgrade. This consultation was undertaken to determine the community’s views on the design concept which aimed to create a pleasant and safe local streetscape and included highlighting existing natural rock crops, re-surfacing the verge, installing a new footpath and new bins, seats and bollards.
