Overview

Council, at its Ordinary Council Meeting of 23 February 2023, resolved to place the Draft Media Policy on public exhibition, inviting members of the Lane Cove community to comment on the Draft Policy.

The Draft Media Policy has been developed using the NSW Office of Local Government's Model Policy on Media which was released in December 2022. The NSW Office of Local Government developed the Model Policy following two rounds of consultation with the local government sector and reflects best practice in the local government sector.

The Draft Media Policy contains four Principles' of media engagement, those being openness, consistency, accuracy and timeliness. It also contains an administrative framework for engagement with the media, outlines who can engage with the media, standards of conduct when engaging with the media, use of the media during emergencies, media engagement in the lead up to an election and general records management obligations.
