Overview
Council, at its Ordinary Council Meeting of 23 February 2023, resolved to place the Draft Social Media Policy on public exhibition, inviting members of the Lane Cove community to comment on the Draft Policy.
The Draft Social Media Policy has been developed using the NSW Office of Local Government's Model Policy on Social Media which was released in April 2022. The NSW Office of Local Government developed the Model Policy following multiple rounds of consultation with the local government sector and reflects best practice in the local government sector. The Model Policy is also informed by advice provided by key NSW Government agencies, including the Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Information and Privacy Commission, the State Archives and Records Authority and Resilience NSW.
The Draft Social Media Policy contains four "Principles' of social media engagement, those being openness, relevance accuracy and respect. It also contains an administrative framework for Council's social media platforms, an administrative framework for Councillor's social media platforms, standards of conduct on social media, moderation of social media platforms, use of social media during emergencies, private use of social media, concerns and complaints, and general records management and privacy obligations.
