Bushcare in Lane Cove

Track Mates

This group gets to explore the many bush tracks in Lane Cove - visiting a different reserve each month. Join Council's Bush Regenerator and help to maintain tracks with light prunning, clearing drains and reporting on any larger maintenance required.  Make wildlife observations and learn your local flora.

DETAILS:
Meets on the 4th Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet: Location changes each month.  Contact the Bushcare Officer for further details.

Bushland Park

One of Lane Cove's larger bushland areas, this area is a part of the National Estate due to the presence of a threatened ecological community of Hygrophoraceae fungi. It also contains a diverse vegetation community through which Gore Creek flows. The Bushcare group here works at several different sites, rotating each month, tackling areas of weed infestation in this lovely remnant bushland.

DETAILS:
Meets on the 4th Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet at the bush entrance next to 24 Ronald Ave, Greenwich

Dorritt St

In 2002, two groups formed to start their bushcare work at this site, with great results to date, in 2016 the groups became one. A creek flows through this site, underneath a canopy of Turpentine and Peppermint Gum. The  group focuses on the bushland area at the corner of Dorritt St and Phoenix St.

DETAILS:
The Saturday group meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
1.00pm – 4.00pm

Osborne Park

This group work in a lovely bushland site underneath beautiful Sydney Red Gums and Turpentines. This site will respond very well to bush regeneration, particularly once the woody weeds are gone. It promises to show some exciting results!

DETAILS:
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet outside 78 Osborne Rd, Lane Cove, near the cul-de-sac.

Tennyson Park
This group works in a lovely remnant bushland area with Sydney Red Gums, Blackbutts and Turpentines dominating the tree tops. Tannery Creek runs through the centre of the reserve and there is a lot of bird life found here. Sections of the reserve suffer from minor to heavy weed infestation and the Bushcare group has contributed greatly to environmental improvements near the Best St entrance in particular.

DETAILS:
Meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet at the Best St entrance to the reserve.

Upper Stringybark Creek

There are two groups working along the upper reaches of Stringybark Creek. This site contains Lane Cove's only area of Blue Gum High Forest, with several magnificent Sydney Blue Gums dominating the tree canopy. The groups have tackled heavy weed infestation at the top part of the creek and have made some great progress to date.

DETAILS:
The Saturday group meets on the 4th Saturday of the month.
9.00am – 12 noon
Meet at the dead end of Murray St, Lane Cove.

Regeneration X
Also working along Upper Stringybark Creek is the Regeneration X Bushcare group which formed in August 2005. This group is ideal for the younger generation to get involved in a practical environmental project as well as being a great social network!

DETAILS:

The Regeneration X group meets on the 4th Sunday of every month
1.00pm – 4.00pm
Meet at the dead end of Murray St. Lane Cove.

Warraroon Reserve

This group is the first Bushare group for Riverview and formed in late 2011. Warraroon has had Bush Regenerators working in it for over 40 years. Volunteers can now help contribute to the protection and enhancement of this beautiful Bushland.
