Lane Cove Council’s Water Quality Monitoring program has
been in place for a number of years.
The water quality of four sites across the Lane Cove local government area are examined on a quarterly basis and the results are assessed against the ANZECC Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality (2000). The water quality of 3 sites are also assessed bi-annually following significant rain events. The objectives of the monitoring programme are to quantify changes in water quality over time in order to identify any long term impacts associated with urban development's and to prescribe remedial action which may be required based on the field observations/data and laboratory data.
The annual reports can be viewed below.
NSW Beachwatch monitors and reports recreational water quality at swimming sites in the Sydney region and provides daily pollution forecasts and weekly star ratings for each monitored swimming site.
For a longer term assessment of the water quality of swimming spots in the harbour and beaches across Sydney and NSW, view the latest State of the Beaches Report 2020-2021.
If it has rained during the last few days, the water may be polluted by stormwater runoff and it is recommended that you avoid swimming during and at least one day after heavy rain at ocean beaches, and for up to three days at estuarine swimming areas.
