RecycleSmart

Soft Plastics Social Media Post - Lane Cove1.jpgUpdate 31st May 2023: If you subscribe to RecycleSmart you will have noticed extended wait times for your collections. Due to the increased popularity of the program the allocated free collections had been oversubscribed. Council is pleased to announce that we have increased our funding to this program to allow for more free collections which will in turn reduce wait times. If you are waiting for a collection, RecycleSmart will be in contact with your revised collection date soon. It is anticipated that within the next month, residents with pre-existing bookings will have their wait time reduced to 4-6 weeks.

To help ease the pressure on this service, residents are also encouraged to make use of the free drop off facilities available for materials like clothing and e-wastes, and to make sure they cancel collections when they are not needed. For information on free drop off facilities visit Councils website

Soft Plastics Update

You can now book a free Power Pickup for your soft plastics. RecycleSmart will collect it from your doorstep and transport it to the APR Plastics facility in Victoria. The plastics will be shredded, turned into oil and then refined into resin to be used as flexible plastic again. To find out more about this process visit RecycleSmart's website or download the FAQ information.

The Power Pickup – How it works

Recycling just got easier with our partner, RecycleSmart

The service, known as a 'Power Pickup', offers residents in Lane Cove an on-demand collection of tricky-to-recycle items - items that are recyclable but cannot be placed in the yellow or blue bins (i.e. e-waste, clothing and misfits such as batteries and bulbs).

Recycling the tricky stuff (like soft plastics, e-waste and clothing) is now even easier:

  1. Scoop up all those tough-to-recycle items and pack your own bag (visit RecycleSmart for packing tips or to order bags)

  2. Book a pickup in three clicks from the RecycleSmart app or website and pick a date that suits you. They collect Monday to Friday and you don't even need to be home.

  3. Your  options:

    1. Subscribe for a free Power Pickup. Council covers the cost for RecycleSmart to collect up to two bags from your residence. You can skip, edit or cancel anytime until 4:00pm the day before, and you can add additional bags for $5 per bag.

    2. Or book a one-off Power Pickup for $5 per bag.

  4. Place the bag/s outside your house on the pickup date before 8:00am. The RecycleSmart team will come to your doorstep and ensure your waste is properly recycled.

Want to know more about how to pack your waste, what bags to use and how the collection works? Visit RecycleSmart's website to find out more. If you have any questions get in touch with the friendly RecycleSmart team by email at hello@recyclesmart.com.
