Car Free Sunday and Big Family Fun Ride

Car free days are an opportunity to encourage motorists to give up their cars for a day. The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free to residents, including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking, and cycling in a safer environment.

Road closures will start from 6:00am and go until 7:00pm on Sunday, 17 September 2023 at the following locations:

• Longueville Road – between Birdwood Avenue and Central Avenue
• Burns Bay Road – between Finlayson Street and Tambourine Bay Road
• Birdwood Lane – between Birdwood Avenue and Rosenthal Ave (access will only be provided to properties along Birdwood Lane).

There will be NO VEHICLE ACCESS for the duration of the event.

Special Event: No Stopping’ zones will be in place on Longueville Road, Burns Bay Road, and Birdwood Avenue. Please ensure your vehicle is not parked in the temporary no stopping zones for the duration of the road closure.

Please note: Access to The Canopy Car Park (Rosenthal Ave), Little Street Car Park and Market Square Car Park (Austin St) will not be affected.

Big Family Fun Ride

Lane Cove Council’s Bicycle Advisory Committee presents Lane Cove's Big Family Fun Ride.

Spring is in the air and with it is the time to enjoy cycling with the whole family at the Big Family Fun Ride! Routes will be on shared user paths, off-road where possible and away from busy streets.

There will also be multiple skills level courses to choose from.

After you finish your chosen route, all riders will have the opportunity to participate in a cycle skills course and helmet decoration competition organised and run by Pedal-Set-Go.

A children’s cycle skills course, a riding obstacle course, helmet decoration competition, a 'selfie photo' frame opportunity and bike maintenance workshop will run continuously while the Longueville Road Loop ride is taking place.

Please note this event will go ahead in rain or shine.
