At its meeting on the 23 May 2024, Council resolved to convert the Terrace Function Room at 1 Pottery Lane into a multifunctional performance space for theatrical productions. This space already has the necessary development consent for public performances.

This decision is based on Council's Cultural Action Plan, which lists a multipurpose cultural performance space as a critical priority. The transformation of the Terrace Function Room will help meet the need for a dedicated space for theatre and performances. Council aims to work with community cultural groups to ensure the solution for the space is effective, fair and sustainable.

How the space is being transformed

Council is creating a vibrant and inclusive community hub through the transformation of the existing Terrace Function Room into a multifunctional performance space. This initiative offers a functional space, ensures accessibility, is approved for public entertainment, and promises a space that enhances creativity, collaboration, and cultural enrichment in the Lane Cove community.

The new performance space will have a seating capacity of up to 135, suitable for a variety of performances and events. It will be fully equipped with soundproofing, audiovisual stage lighting, and a backstage area for performers.

The facility will be fully accessible and offer accessibility for people with limited mobility, extensive undercover parking, and lift access to the venue.

Council has allocated $1 million for the project at the new location. As works are imminent, we want to make sure that we integrate feedback from potential attendees and future users of the newly created space. This includes the features and activities the community would like to see as well as a potential name for the venue.
