Friday 24 March, 3:30pm - 5:30pm, Lane Cove Plaza
Lane Cove is unique, culturally diverse and constantly evolving. Drop by and celebrate our vibrant community at the 2023 Kaleidoscope of Lane Cove event with live music, workshops and interactive stalls for all to enjoy.
The 2023 free event will feature the Shohrat Tursun Trio who will bring their captivating fusion to the Lane Cove Plaza. This trio is a dynamic combination of ancient Uyghur melodies and African chant and rhythms woven into contemporary compositions that could only have been forged in Australia.
At 4:15pm, see martial artists in action as the Hapkido College of Australia show audiences how this Korean art is performed. You will also be able to learn self-defence techniques by attending their workshop between 3:30pm and 5:00pm with safety mats provided.
Lane Cove's own Multicultural Community will host a stall where you can learn how to get involved locally and celebrate Lane Cove's diversity on a regular basis. They will have activities to keep the children entertained.
You are also invited to join First Nations artist Tegan as she teaches you how to weave a bracelet using traditional techniques. Tegan is Barkindtji, Yorta Yorta and Dhudaroah and uses weaving as a way to "break down barriers – so we can sit, connect and learn about each other's journey while learning about my beautiful culture at the same time".
If you cannot stay for the whole event, why not try the Henna stall where you can get a beautiful design on your hand, created in the moment by artists from Henna by Hura. This South Asian practice known as mehndi in Hindi and Urdu has been in use for over 5,000 years and is a paste that leaves temporary designs on the skin.
This annual event in Council's calendar is all about bringing the community together so we hope to see you there.
