Open Space Plans

The Open Space Plan 2016-2026 sets out the guiding principles for a number of key themes to reinforce the main direction for the planning and management of Lane Cove’s Open Spaces (parks and playgrounds, sporting areas, bushland, streetscapes and urban spaces).

Council has adopted a number of plans that are used to help manage the Open Space areas withing the Local Government Area.

Community Garden Procedures and Guidelines

These guidelines are designed to assist interested groups in the process of applying for and establishing a community garden on Council land in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993.

Community Land Plan of Management: Council Owned Land

This plan governs the use and management of community land owned by Council.

It describes the current purposes and uses of the community lands and their values, assigns them to one or more categories and sets out objectives and performance targets for active land management and use.

Community Land Plan of Management: Crown Reserves

This plan governs the use and management of land which is Crown Reserve managed by Council.

It describes the current purposes and uses of the community lands and their values, assigns them to one or more categories and sets out objectives and performance targets for active land management and use.

Dog Strategy

This strategy provides Council with a plan for providing and managing dogs' access to all public spaces in the Lane Cove Council area. This includes on leash areas, our 19 off-leash areas and areas where dogs are prohibited as prescribed by the Companion Animals Act 1998 (the Act). It also provides criteria for the selection and design of any future off-leash areas and dog parks.

Pesticides Notification Plan

The aim of this plan is to meet the community’s right to know about pesticide applications made to outdoor public places that are controlled by Lane Cove Council.

This is in accordance with the Pesticides Regulations 2017 and Lane Cove Council Pesticide Notification Plan adopted 2019.

The plan allows members of the community to take action to avoid contact with pesticides, if they wish.

The plan sets out how the Council will notify the community of pesticide applications it makes to public places.

The plan describes:

  • what public places are covered by the plan
  • who regularly uses these public places and an estimate of the level of use
  • how and when Council will provide the community with information about its pesticide
  • applications in public places (i.e. what notification arrangements will be used)
  • how the community can access this plan and get more information about Council’s notification arrangements
  • contact details for anyone wanting more information on the plan.
