Lane Cove on Stage: Sydney Fringe Festival Partnership and Lane Cove Cinema Club Year 2

It is the first trial at hosting a metropolitan-significant cultural event delivered in the Lane Cove LGA, attracting metropolitan and regional audiences and raising the profile of the village. Two key projects will be delivered.

1. Ongoing partnership with Sydney Fringe Festival
   The inaugural Lane Cove Festival @ Sydney Fringe 2025 significantly exceeded expectations, delivering 66 events, attracting 7,742 attendees (more than three times the target), and achieving strong outcomes at a low cost per attendee. Building on this success, the 2026 program will focus on deeper engagement, an encore week of popular Fringe shows in Lane Cove, and stronger identification and celebration of local artists, further activating Pottery Lane and supporting the objectives of the Lane Cove Festival.
   
   

2. Continued support for the Lane Cove Cinema Club
   The Cinema Club will continue to use the Pottery Lane Performance Space to deliver regular film and documentary screenings, discussion groups and partnerships with film festivals and community organisations. Council will seek input from participants about future films or focuses e.g First Nations films programmed by Awesome Black or films about people with lived experience of disability. Will also continue to develop partnerships with International and Local Film Festivals – like Queer Screen and Taiwan Film Festival.

Sustainability Lane

Sustainability Lane is a popular annual event showcasing ideas and innovations for sustainable living to the Lane Cove Community. It is held as part of Rotary Fair each year, which saw 18,000 attendees in 2025. The event aims to showcase:

• Stalls by local sustainability community groups
• Stalls by local businesses promoting sustainable living solutions
• Entertainment promoting Sustainable living and opportunities for learning
• Council information displays on bushcare and Sustainability
• Information about home Electrification and Electric Vehicle displays

Community Safety Partnership

This project aims to demonstrate Council’s strong commitment to supporting a safe, welcoming and connected community by inviting the Lane Cove community to partner with Council in improving community safety through the co-purchase of CCTV cameras. Council will rebates for camera purchases where the cameras must be installed outside the street address of the applicant, be registered with the North Shore Police Area Command Proactive Crime Team CCTV database, and display a sign visible to the public that the building is monitored by a security camera.

Bushcare Recruitment Campaign

The majority of Bushcare volunteers are aging. In order to sustain the program it is crucial to attract a younger generation (25-45). Awareness of Bushcare among younger demographics is low, and traditional recruitment efforts have not effectively engaged them. This project will deliver a targeted marketing campaign using social media and community outreach to increase visibility and attract new volunteers. The recruitment resources produced would be generic in nature and would be offered freely to other councils for use for their own bushcare programs to reduce waste through replication.

Bush Tucker and Frog Bog Interpretive Signage

The Lane Cove Community Nursery reserve has undergone 20yrs of bush regeneration, including the creation of a Frog Bog and Bush Tucker Garden. These two areas have become an integral part in environmental education events including Nursery workshops and Bug Hunt activities. This project will create 16 x signs to enhance community engagement with these areas.

Native Garden Disability Support Program

This project will employ Bushlink bush regeneration contractors and their team to continue to maintain historic plantings and prepare sites for future native gardens.

These workers have provided excellent value servicing past revegetation sites in the LGA. This project will demonstrate that Lane Cove Council is supporting employment inclusivity in general and more specifically in its bushland works program. Employing Bushlink to maintain these native gardens is a cost effective option that has the added benefit of supporting adults with disabilities in a rewarding occupation. The important work of the Bushlink organisation has featured on an episode of ‘Gardening Australia’.

Harbourcare

This program focuses on collecting marine debris data whilst cleaning up our waterways and natural areas. Litter collection days are conducted with volunteers on land and on the river using kayaks under the guidance of Council and external contractors. This program provides Council with valuable data whilst collaborating with the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) who coordinates the AMDI Database (national database).

EmPOWERING Lane Cove

The project will focus on delivering energy literacy workshops to the community. By partnering with Sydney Community Services, we will make use of their connections in Lane Cove to reach our intended audience. Council will engage with facilitators to deliver educational workshops targeted towards specific community groups including seniors, renters, and culturally linguistically diverse groups with additional support such as on-site interpreters, the creation and translation of collateral and specific tips that can be adopted by each individual. Additional 1:1 support will be available where residents can sit down with a facilitator to review their bill and ask specific questions and get direction on their next steps.

Climate Resilience Events and Communications

Develop, deliver and evaluate events, workshops, webinars and communication materials for residents to increase their understanding of resilience to climate change. Events and materials will be designed to increase understanding on how the changing climate will affect us locally and encourage self-reliance to mitigate and adapt to climate risks and prepare for emergencies. Events will vary in scale and scope to engage a diverse audience, including staff on sustainability and resilience education. Topics include getting prepared for an emergency, urban heat and cooling, building a resilient home, resilience businesses, and managing heatwaves.

The funding will also allow for purchase of resources as giveaways and freebies for attendees attending events which will also assist attendance, delivery of content and further support their own learning and development on the topic post event.

Creating awareness and engagement with our new Sustainability Action Plan and Climate Emergency Plan

With two new and important plans being prepared and adopted by Council in 2026 and 2027, the Sustainability Action Plan and Climate Emergency Action Plan, this project seeks to develop informative videos to explore the plans and their actions to communicate clearly with the community.

HSC Support Program

This project aims to provide additional study space with increased opening hours on Friday nights from 5pm to 8pm and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm, before and during the HSC exams at Lane Cove Library. As part of these dedicated study times we would like to provide Mental Health support, stress management solutions including mindfulness activities, pamper packs, refreshments, and Paws pet therapy visits, along with Study support materials.

Keeping Lane Cove Cool

The project aims to add to the services already provided at the Library to include support to community members during heatwaves and extreme heat days. The Library is a popular location for people to attend during hot weather due to its accessible location, air conditioning, and availability of free events and services.

Every Child a Bush Experience

A program of local bush excursions for grade 4 students across all Lane Cove schools. Funding covers the costs of the Field of Mars Environmental Education team who run the excursions in Lane Cove bushland. There has been interest expressed again for 2026/2027.

Trained environmental educators take school groups through Lane Cove bushland to discover its value, special features, management issues and more. It promotes awareness of Lane Cove’s natural heritage and is important for developing environmental stewardship within children. Students have made documentaries, undertaken water testing, studied bugs, made sketches and stories in their local bushland, allowing children to gain appreciation for and make connections to their local area.

Social Cohesion program for MUDs

This project will build on the Meet Your Neighbours grant application that was received in 2022 through the Social Cohesion grant funded by Premier’s Department and the Extreme Weather Resilience grant funded through Sydney North Health Network in 2023.

Council will partner with up to 5 residential apartment buildings to deliver the social cohesion program to deliver 3 events per building with the first one being an introductory/Meet Your Neighbours style event, followed by a second one where residents will work on a mapping activity to identify resilience and safety ideas for the building, followed by the final event where the ideas are categorised, and prioritised, and residents can put forward ideas to address these concerns. These final results will be passed onto appropriate individuals such as building managers, strata committee etc to investigate ability to action.

Meet your Neighbours

The program will support the Neighbours Every Day campaign by Relationships Australia, with a focus on building social cohesion in Lane Cove. Residents will be able to register interest to hold a ‘Meet Your Neighbours’ event for their apartment buildings or street and be reimbursed for up to $200 for food and non-alcoholic drink.

Having a positive relationship with neighbours can provide a sense of safety, friendship, and overall wellbeing throughout the year, but also provides an additional support system during times of an emergency, where we know neighbours are often the first network to assist in an emergency.

Supporting Sustainability Communications

The aim of this project is to ensure that the community is well-informed about the progress being made on the projects that are funded through the Sustainability Levy, promotion of other sustainability programs, and promotion of the goals of the Sustainability Action Plan.

Council offers a range of great programs and initiatives to the community, but it is difficult to promote these programs through free channels. This project would enable the programs and initiatives to be promoted in local newspapers, paid ads online, and the design and fabrication of hard copy materials. It would also enable Council to more strategically target certain residents and community members to encourage signups and engagement with sustainable practices.

Supporting Sustainability Events

Develop, deliver and evaluate events, workshops, webinars and public forums for residents to engage with sustainable practices. This includes events for Clean Up Australia Day, World Environment Week, Earth Hour, Buy Nothing New Month, and other events as the opportunity arises throughout the year.

These events will encourage behaviour change across a range of areas, including energy and water consumption, waste minimisation, recycling and conscious consumerism. Events will vary in scale and scope to engage a diverse audience. There will also be a focus on encouraging the community to drive to meet our emissions and water targets.

Lane Cove Library Solar Panel Upgrade to 99kws

$ 200,000.00

The existing solar system installed at the Library is now over 15 years old and due to the age of the system, the current panels are significantly less efficient than modern technology. As such, there is an opportunity to increase the potential generation and size of the system installed on the facility. This upgrade would involve replacing the existing panels with newer, higher-efficiency units and expand the total capacity.

Urban Forest Habitat Creation and Augmentation

Despite Lane Cove Council’s impressive Tree Preservation policies, mature canopy loss in the urban environment is still a major issue affecting biodiversity loss in the region. Many native fauna species require hollows for habitat, including several threatened species of birds and mammals.

This project aims to provide vital hollows throughout the urban environment to aid in habitat linkage for native fauna. Interpretive signage affixed to the trees will also aim to engage and educate the community on the benefits of hollows. Mosman council, among others, have successfully undertaken ‘habitat stag tree’ programs, with similar activities intended for this project. The funding will be used for 10 native trees, with 3-4 artificial or augmented hollows provided per tree.

On The Verge

This program supports residents convert the nature strip or road reserve close to their home into a native garden. Council provides resources, including free mulch and plants from the Community Nursery, initial on-ground support and advice on how to maintain a native garden.
Since the commencement of this project, interest from the local community for nature strip conversions has continued to grow and Council has received positive feedback from residents and media attention. In 2024, On The Verge was recognised at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities awards and received ‘Highly Commended’ for Biodiversity Conservation.

Spanish Moss Mapping and Removal

At the October 2025 Council meeting, Council resolved to map and remove Spanish moss from street trees in proximity to bushland. The resolution included:
a) identification and mapping of Spanish Moss festoons on street trees that adjoin or are within close proximity to bushland within the Local Government Area and develop a removal plan with indicative timeline and cost;
b) accelerated removal of Spanish Moss on street trees, with a particular focus on street trees adjoining or in close proximity to bushland.

Supporting Solar on Community Facilities

Council will assist and co-contribute to installing solar panels (and potentially batteries) at Council owned facilities which are leased to community groups and social enterprises within the Lane Cove LGA.

The Supporting Solar on Community Facilities project in FY2024/25 successfully demonstrated that this project works in Lane Cove, and saw Council co-contribute $25,792 to solar and battery installations at three facilities with a total capacity of 32kW and 46kWh respectively.

Organic waste collection from Canopy

$ 27,600.00

This project facilitates the separate collection and recycling of food waste from the Canopy Restaurants in order to divert these organics from landfill. A trial was run in 2025 with the assistance of Edge Impact through the delivery of the Bin Trim program - one year prior to the legislated commencement date for food organics for this precinct. The project will divert approximately 1,800 litres of organics waste from landfill per week, and has diverted over 14,000 kg litres from July 2025 to December 2025. The trial is now over, and the Sustainability Levy will support the continuation of the program until the legislated mandate comes in.

Lovetts Reserve Biodiversity Protection Project

The project involves removing environmental weeds to encourage natural regeneration of the bushland adjoining the remnant Endangered Ecological Community (EEC) Coastal Saltmarsh. Best practice bush regeneration techniques will be used to reduce the weeds which have a negative effect on diversity and limit the extent of the indigenous flora species. This work will also help to support our local volunteers in the Lovetts Bushcare group as well as several participants in the Bushfriends and Backyard Habitat programs.

Climate Emergency Plan Consultant Support

$ 25,000.00

Lane Cove Council declared a Climate emergency in 2019 and in 2025 committed to developing a Climate Emergency Plan in lieu of the Climate Resilience Action Plan in 2026. This project will involve the engagement of a specialist consultant to assist in developing a climate risk assessment regarding localised risks and best practice mitigation strategies to support the development of the Climate Emergency Plan. The purpose of this report is to provide additional guidance and direction in the Climate Emergency Plan and give further support in the goals and actions the plan works to deliver on.

Removing Chemicals at Galuwa

$ 23,600.00

The funding for this project will be used to purchase two e-water systems for installation and use at Galuwa Recreation Centre. E-water is water and salt that is electrolysed to create 2 x cleaning products that replace the need for synthetic chemicals in most commercial uses. Benefits include:

• Only $0.0035 per litre to produce – avoid the cost of replacing chemical sanitisers constantly

• Cuts out packaging waste

• Eliminate harsh chemicals often found in cleaning products

• Reduce transport emissions as its generated on-site

• Increase food safety as it is a hospital grade disinfectant

The e-water systems will be installed in the kitchen and cleaners storage area. They will replace synthetic chemical solutions used for sanitisers, hand washing, food washing, glass and stainless-steel cleaning, oven and grill cleaning, floor cleaning, and general-purpose spray bottles for the whole center. Other companies that use include NSW Health, Deloitte, Merivale, Commonwealth Bank.

Rope Access Weed Control

The program will use bush regenerator contractors to follow up on previous work controlling weeds in areas at Manns Point Reserve and Greenwich Baths requiring specialist abseiling equipment and expertise. Currently, Council does not have the abseiling equipment or the expertise to control weeds on cliff faces. This requires specially trained workers to control these weeds safely and effectively. This project also helps to support the work of the long running Manns Point Bushcare Group.

Sustainability Reporting - Energy, Water, Gas, and Scope 3 data

This project maintains the engagement of a third-party supplier to provide and maintain a software platform used for the monitoring and reporting of energy, water and gas performance across all of Councils facilities.

As of 2026, this platform also now offers a General Ledger Accounts tool, where Council will be able to track all Scope 3 spend-data through uploading the annual GLA information.

CMP – Coastal Management Plan – Inner Harbour – Contribution part 1.

The Inner Harbour Coastal Management Program (CMP) group & Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) are preparing a grant application to partly fund the development of an Inner Harbour CMP. Lane Cove Council has joined the Inner Harbour CMP group. Council requires a CMP to set a framework with aims & objectives to improve the natural & social estuarine & coastal environments for Lane Cove. This CMP would give Council increased eligibility to apply for increased Coastal and Estuary grants.

ZapCat

$ 19,000.00

ZapCat is a certified social enterprise who provide free, independent energy advice and hand-holding to residents and businesses as part of a well-designed electrification program. Under the program, community members can access personalised advice on low emission and energy efficient upgrades including solar and batteries, EVs and EV chargers, induction cooktops, hot water heat pumps, reverse-cycle air conditioning, insulation and draught proofing. ZapCat also offer energy efficiency assessments which are especially suitable for renters, providing advice on improving thermal comfort and reducing energy bills. The program also includes an Energy Plan Comparison tool so households can get the best plan for them.

ZapCat carries out vetting of local installers and provides a full platform with live data on uptake of the program and multiple other datapoints including average CO2e avoided, income to local installers, and more.

Volunteer Bushcare Program

The Bushcare program is a partnership between Lane Cove Council and the community to regenerate and manage publicly owned bushland for the long-term. This project will fund the quarterly newsletter, Bushcare workshops, tools, PPE, uniforms, recognition awards and professional contractors as additional aid for Bushcare volunteers. This application also incorporates funding for the Streamwatch and Waterbug blitz volunteer programs.

Greener Apartments Program

$ 16,000.00

This program provides Strata Committees with a free sustainability audit of the common areas of their apartment complex and a detailed report outlining opportunities to improve energy and water efficiency. This year the program will be supported by the Strata Audit for Solar Potential project, where feasible strata buildings will be directed to the Greener Apartments Program for their report.

To participate in the program, the Strata Committee must confirm their support for the program with a majority vote. Following this, Council connects them with an independent consultant who specalises in strata sustainability projects. Greener Apartments is a popular program which has seen apartment buildings implement both minor report actions such as changing fluro lights to LEDs and installing sensor lighting in car parks, and major report actions such as installing EV Chargers and solar systems.

Yangoora Reserve Wildlife Corridor Project

$ 13,500.00

Yangoora reserve borders the only freshwater lake in the LGA and is considered high biodiverse wetland habitat. The aim is to remove a stand of mature camphor laurel trees on the edge of healthy riparian bushland to increase sunlight in the understory, restoring native seed bank and wetland corridor.

Bush regeneration is a key component, providing support to arborists throughout the duration of the project. Weed maintenance will commence in the in the understory followed by canopy control in preparation for camphor laurel tree stagging and habitat creation.

Supplement planting is imperative following camphor laurel removal to support fauna and flora until the natural regeneration processes establish. The addition of augmented hollows and habitat creation will immediately provide shelter, safeguards and nesting sites for elusive species and species moving through bushland corridors.

Warraroon Wetland Biodiversity Protection Project 2026

This project continues ecological restoration efforts to conserve the Endangered Ecologically Communities (EEC’s) within Warraroon Wetlands, including Saltmarsh, Estuarine Swamp Oak Forest, Coastal Escarpment Littoral Rainforest and Estuarine Mangrove Forest.

The implementation of best practice primary, secondary and maintenance bush regeneration techniques will ensure target pest plants are managed sustainably. Revegetation of the appropriate Plant Community Type is required in highly degraded zones, with plants sourced from the LCC Community Nursery.

Objectives for the next 12 months are target 6 weeds across the site, continue to maintain resilient areas and revegetate using long stem and colony planting in identified areas.

Recycled Street Banner Project

This project aims to lead by example and inspire the community to look for alternatives to disposing of waste by upcycling fabric banners that have been previously used to promote Lane Cove Council events. The colourful large scale, outdoor, fabric banners will be upcycled into attractive, practical and reusable tote bags which can be used for shopping and as library bags. The completed bags can then be used for a variety of Council promotional materials such as Festival bags handed out complimentarily to attendees at Council events. In 2026, Council would sell these bags for $5 each, creating a potential income of $3,000 (based on 3 bags per banner x 150 banners)

Resilient Sydney Membership

The application covers the Lane Cove Council contribution to the Resilient Sydney program for 2026/2027. Our funding supports delivery of the Resilient Sydney Strategy and program, and provides Council with the following benefits:

• 4 Resilience Ambassador meetings per year. Each meeting focuses on a strategy direction or action, or on response and recovery to recent shock events.
• Access to the Resilient Sydney platform for 12 months, providing data and information to support planning

• An annual Mayoral event exploring the most pressing issues facing our communities to develop collaboration, action, and advocacy.

Strata Building Audit for Solar Potential

$ 11,000.00

This project is a collaborative effort between Council and a highly experienced strata sustainability consultant who we already engage for other strata-related programs.The consultant will complete a Strata Building Solar Audit, using their unique data and algorithms, to provide a complete dataset of the strata buildings in the LGA with solar installed, those without, and the solar potential for each block. The Top 50 strata solar candidates would be identified. Once delivered, these data and recommendations will allow Council to provide more targeted support to strata blocks to get solar, reducing their emissions and power bills.

Lane Cove West Saltmarsh Restoration

$ 10,000.00

This project would continue the maintenance of the Saltmarsh Ecologically Endangered Community (EEC) in Bushland of the Lane Cove West area. This work follows on from previous levy funding for work in the Lovetts Reserve Saltmarsh EEC. This restoration work includes additional areas of the Saltmarsh EEC in Blackman Park and Ventemans Reach Reserves as well as the original Lovetts Reserve sites. Council has previously established exclusion zones in areas of Blackman Park, which have increased the resilience of the ECC to the impacts of water level rise. This project is a more wholistic approach to the EEC management which enables Council to monitor and treat multiple sites as one vegetation community.

Feral Animal Control in Bushland Areas

This project aims to reduce the negative impact of feral animals on the biodiversity of Lane Cove Council’s bushland. This project is a continuation of the work that has been done by LCC for over a decade as part of a regional feral animal control program. This project is managed by Lane Cove Council’s Bushland staff as members of the Sydney North Vertebrate Pest Committee (SNVPC) and with the assistance of Local Land Services. The project taps into the resources of these bodies.

This funding allows LCC to contribute to the SNVPC with coordinated feral animal shoots and baiting in line with other regional Councils. Coordinated feral animal control increases the success rates of each cull. The culls include regular fox/rabbit shoots conducted by contractors and a RHDV rabbit virus program implemented by bushland staff.

Recycle glass at The Canopy

Bottlecycler provides 2 x glass crusher machines. These machines crush glass and bottles from local restaurants in The Canopy area. It saves the glass from being wasted in landfill to be recycled, 100% of the glass cullet is processed back into new bottles. The bottlecyclers:
* Improve efficiency – whole bottles take up much more space than crushed glass – meaning less bins / less frequent collections (reduced waste handling costs)
* Improve safety by reducing sharp edges from breakages
* Prevent glass fines from contaminating other recyclable materials

Carbon Neutral Fleet

$ 8,750.00

As a first priority, Council aims to reduce fuel usage across all fleet vehicles. This project offsets the remaining carbon emissions associated with Council's leaseback and equipment fleet. With Councils facilities and streetlighting being powered by 100% renewable energy, we are achieving a 75% reduction in emissions for 2024/25. The remaining emissions are from fuel usage and gas in our facilities.

Powerful Owl Project Support

$ 8,000.00

Support the monitoring, research and rehabilitation of the local threatened urban Powerful Owl population, by educating the public and training community volunteers to monitor owl ecology. There are now 7 Powerful Owl territories identified in Lane Cove LGA. Continued monitoring of Lane Cove owl nest boxes (including new boxes installed in 2026) following breeding successes is critical to help understand the factors required for successful breeding in artificial hollows (still a very rare occurrence for Powerful Owls).

Research programs supported include studies on nest boxes and hollows, a nest tree database, acoustic monitoring, impact of rodenticides and owl mortality.

Bush Friends/On The Verge Casual Supervision

As the Bush Friends program supports trained volunteers to work both under supervision and independently in bushland adjacent their property, they play a vital role in supporting bushland management and building community connection to the local environment. Obtaining casual supervisors, in the same capacity that exists for Bushcare, has ensured that we are able to continue to meet the growing demand for the program both on weekdays and weekends.
Weekend supervision opens the program to a wider demographic of volunteers, including younger residents who work full time hours during the week.

Social and ecological impacts of Caring for Country with traditional cultural burning in the Durumbura Dhuraband (grant contribution)

This is a grant collaboration with UMQ, NPWS, and 6 Councils (Kur-ring-gai Council, Ryde Council, Willoughby Council, Hunters Hill Council, Hornsby Council, Parramatta Council).

The grant project concerns the indigenous practice of Caring for Country, through the Durumbura Dhurabang (aka the Lane Cove River). Council is committed to supporting the project to identify a selected cultural burn site within the Lane Cove catchment, supply water facilities, any official requirements (e.g REF or Burn Plan), and support protection of archaeological and Songline connections.

Ask a Sustainability Expert

This project provides practical, tailored advice to residents and businesses to support them in adopting sustainable living practices. Participants have access to free, online meetings of 30 minutes with a sustainability expert related to their area of interest, and are able to meet with a maximum of 2 consultants per financial year on the following topics:

• Energy efficiency, solar energy, Greenpower, reducing electricity use and bills

• Native gardening, balcony gardens, attracting birds and bees, water wise gardens

• Recycling, composting and worm farming

• Preparing for extreme weather events

• Connecting with the community/neighbours

• Apartment living – solar and batteries in strata blocks, EV charging, heat pumps etc.

• Building and renovating sustainably

O'Connell Street Native Garden

This project will create the O’Connell St. Native Gardens between Manns Point Reserve and the Greenwich Baths. Previously, it was a popular throughfare that was an important parkland wildlife corridor between the bushland at Manns Point and Shell Park Reserves. The garden will ideally be a space that is valued by the local community for its aesthetic beauty and habitat value.

Lucretia Baths Heritage Project

The Lucretia Baths Heritage Project will capture, conserve and interpret the cultural and social heritage of Lucretia Baths. The project focuses on recording oral histories, conserving significant material elements, creating a publicly accessible digital heritage archive, and providing modest on-site interpretation.

The project responds to strong and ongoing community concern that the stories, memories and physical traces of Lucretia Baths may be lost as the local population ages. Through heritage storytelling and conservation, the project ensures this rare, community-built harbour baths remains embedded in Longueville’s identity, regardless of the future physical use of the site.

Village Graffiti Reduction Program

This project removes graffiti from public and private property in commercial and highly visible parts of the LGA such as Lane Cove Village, St Leonards shopping precinct, Greenwich shopping precinct and Epping Road. Emphasis is placed on rapid removal as a deterrant. All services will be provided by a third-party contractor.

Business Support

This project will support all local businesses in Lane Cove. By keeping our local businesses connected and supporting their growth, Council is able to increase their capacity for resilience. We know that shopping locally reduces the need for people to travel out of the area to source what they need and that supporting a thriving small business community ensures local jobs so people can live near where they work.

Campaigns are focused on busy retail periods to capitalise on these opportunities with the local community. Small business breakfasts seek to inform and equip individuals and organisations with the tools and insights needed to maintain a business long term and grow their careers.

Greenwich Public School Bike Bus Study

This project provides funding for a consultant to do a 'Concept Design' for the Greenwich Public School Bike Bus. This will enable the team to understand the upgrades necessary and apply for funding for any infrastructure upgrades in a future Sustainability Levy round. The Bike Bus is intended to be a fun, safe, and community-focused way for students to travel to school by bicycle. Just like a bus, the Bike Bus follows a set route with designated pick-up points, a timetable, and adult supervisors who ride with the group. Students join the bike bus at a convenient location and cycle together to school, building confidence and road-safety skills along the way.

Dunois Reserve Restoration Project

This project funds bush regeneration and bush revegetation in the remnant vegetation area known as Dunois Reserve (Griffith Park) located in Longueville. Dunois Reserve contains many native species under threat from land clearing and weed invasion. Part of the remnant vegetation has been classified as Estuarine Swamp Oak Forest which has been designated as an Ecologically Endangered Community EEC.

Best practive bush regeneration techniques will be used to manage weeds which are reducing the biodiversity of the indigenous flora species. Bush Revegetation is needed to reestablish native species in the cleared area and the historic encroachment area.

English as a Second Language Book Club

An ESL Book Club trial, using donated books, was established late in 2025 and has proven very popular with participants. It provides them with the opportunity to speak English in a small, welcoming environment where they can build confidence and friendship. The group meets monthly at Lane Cove Library, and sessions are run by a volunteer teacher. This project will continue to support this ESL Book Club in FY25/26.
