Where does our waste go?

Lane Cove's general waste is transported by rail to Veolia's Woodlawn Eco-Precinct, near Goulburn. Once there, a portion of our waste is processed through a Mechanical and Biological Treatment facility which uses resource recovery technology to extract organic content from Council's general waste stream; producing compost for on-site mine rehabilitation.

The remainder of our waste is deposited into bioreactor landfill in which liquids are added to help bacteria break down the waste and the resultant gases are then captured to produce green energy.
