Organics Project

Compost Network Postcards (Facebook Post).jpg

A future where every food scrap is valued, every neighbour is engaged, and our environment thrives.

That’s the vision of this Sustainability Collective project.

By sharing their wealth of knowledge, the Group will ‘be the change’ and inspire others along the way.

Targets

When the Sustainability Collective got started in 2023, we knew the following about our organics:

  • On average, 43% of material in the red-lidded bin is food (3.5kg per household per week)
  • 11 local members of Sharewaste were connected with 194 people
  • 37 community gardens members were composting at community gardens
  • 3 local businesses were starting to use subpods

The goal of the Sustainability Collective is to increase awareness of food waste reduction methods and to create and grow the Compost Network. Ideally, this will enable 50% of residents to have access to a compost option and could reduce the organic waste in the red-lidded bin by 30% by 2026.

Our Collective Actions

  • Members of the Sustainability Collective conducted a survey at the Sustainability Lane in 2023, where they invited the community to add a sticker to a map to show if they were home composters or willing to participate as hosts or donors.
  • The Collective worked with Council to co-create the Compost Network where residents connect to work together for community composting. All participants from the survey conducted at Sustainability Lane were invited to join the Compost Network when it launched.
  • Members of the Sustainability Collective are part of our Compost Network and help grow the network by promoting and providing valuable feedback. Join us in the Compost Network to become a host or donor today!
