Since 1962, the Lane Cove Historical Society (LCHS) has been researching the history and heritage of life on the North Shore.

Its charter includes collecting and managing artefacts and memorabilia representing life in Lane Cove.

LCHS also has the curatorship of Carisbrook Historic House and welcomes volunteers who would like to contribute to the community in an interesting way by becoming a Friend of Carisbrook.

Other services for the community and members include:

The LCHS Lane Cove History Prize was launched in 2016 and every year offers a cash prize ($1,500 in 2025) for a work of written history, an oral history or a documentary style video on an aspect of local history.

The aim is to encourage original research into the history of our community and its environs, extending knowledge of the area and its people. It is intended that the research will contribute to knowledge of the area’s past that will help to give us an enriched understanding of our present.

‘At the Podium’ is a  monthly meeting hosted by Lane Cove Historical Society and held at Lane Cove Library.  This is an opportunity to hear from our guest speaker on an interesting topic of local history.

'The Noticeboard' is the a monthly newsletter published by Lane Cove Historical Society.  The newsletter provides details of all our upcoming events, updates on local history and occasional articles highlighting interesting items in the LCHS collection and much more.

Lane Cove Historical Society welcomes members and volunteers and offers a range of events and opportunities for interesting conversations, friendships and making a contribution to the future of Lane Cove by appreciating both its past and present.
