Support for Local Performers: New Cultural Hire Rate Now Available
Council is proud to launch a new initiative to make live performance more accessible, affordable and vibrant in our community.
Informed by feedback from the pilot performance program at the new Pottery Lane Performance Space (PLPS), Council has introduced a new subsidised performer hire rate, set at just 30% of the standard commercial rate. This rate is available for individuals and groups who want to present ticketed performances to the public in Council venues (Pottery Lane Performance Space, The Living And Learning Centre or the Cove Room) but are independent performing artists.
This innovative approach aims to:
- Support emerging and local artists to access performance venues
- Ensure performers can reinvest in professional AV, production, and promotion
- Build a more diverse and dynamic cultural calendar for the Lane Cove community
- Grow the local creative economy and live performance opportunities
Council understands that most performers earn modest returns from small-venue shows. This new rate is designed to make it viable to present high-quality, ticketed performances without being priced out of local venues.
Hires will be limited to 12 per year to ensure diversity and quality in programming. Interested performers should visit our https://www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/Services/Facilities-for-Hire to for venue details and bookings.
Council is committed to fostering creativity, supporting the arts, and ensuring Lane Cove remains one of the most culturally vibrant areas on the Lower North Shore.
