People in the Upper and Lower North Shore are asked to conserve water.
As a result of a major water main break in West Ryde which damaged critical pumping equipment, residents in the Lower and Upper North Shore are being asked to reduce water use over the coming days from Thursday 26 March 2026.
The water is safe to drink and water quality will be continually monitored.
A water main break in West Ryde has reduced water transfers to parts of the North Shore, making it harder to supply all local reservoirs. As a result, there is less drinking water available to meet demand.
Sydney Water is urging customers to reduce non-essential water use including hosing driveways and other hard surfaces, watering gardens, and washing cars. Customers are also encouraged to take shorter showers and use the half-flush on their toilet.
Sydney Water is working to restore water supply to normal operational levels. All drinking water being delivered to households is clean and safe.
This conserve water notice will remain in place until further advice.
