Council Introduces New Performer Rate to Boost Local Arts
Published on 07 July 2025
Lane Cove Council is excited to announce a new initiative to support local and emerging performers through a significantly reduced venue hire rate for live ticketed performances.
From this month, artists wishing to perform in key Council-run venues (Pottery Lane Performance Space, The Living and Learning Centre or the Cove Room) can apply for a new performer rate set at just 30% of the commercial hire fee. The new rate aims to make local live performance viable, following strong interest and valuable feedback during last year’s pilot programs at the Pottery Lane Performance Space.
“This bold new step directly responds to the barriers faced by performers, especially young and emerging artists, who are often priced out of hiring local venues for live shows,” said Mayor Merri Southwood “By reducing the cost barrier, we’re helping artists focus on what matters—putting on a great show and building their careers.”
The initiative reflects Council’s commitment to the arts as outlined in its Cultural Plan, with the ambition of making Lane Cove a hub for diverse and high-quality live performance.
The rate is available for community ticketed performances, with all revenue retained by the performer to help cover essential costs like sound, lighting, and marketing. The program is capped at 12 bookings per year, ensuring a diverse, year-round offering for the community.
