Welcome to our Council Meeting wrap up for Lane Cove Council's Ordinary Meeting – 21 August 2025.
A summary of the meeting highlights are included below – please refer to Council minutes for further detail:
New services: Council endorsed the introduction of a Food Waste Service with a planned start date of March 2026. The service would include a separate Food Organics bin with stand-alone households participating from March 2026, with townhouses, units and apartments complexes able to opt-in from 2027. Council also awarded a Tender for a childcare operator in a new Council facility in St Leonards while two new locations were earmarked for on-street EV charging services in our local area.
Community feedback: Council considered the results of the Draft Events Management Policy, Proposed changes to the 2025/26 Fees & Charges as well as the Draft Code of Conduct and Draft Code of Meeting Practice.
Traffic matters: The August meeting included consideration of traffic in the St Leonards Precinct as well as the meeting minutes of the July Traffic Committee. Council agreed to investigate parking solutions to Fleming Street to manage parking impacts of all major construction works in the area as well as to commence engagement with the residents of Fleming Street and Northwood Road (to Upper Cliff Road) now to outline options for management of parking after the Galuwa Recreation Centre becomes fully operational.
Vale Judy Bailey OAM: During the meeting Council acknowledged the passing of Dr Judy Bailey OAM, noting her significant contributions to the local music community, and resolved to consult with her family and the music community for a fitting tribute. Council also unanimously resolved to become a ‘Supporter Council’ for the Mayoral & Councillor Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum (with no annual fee), to investigate advocacy opportunities, and to consider progressing to a General Member status in 2026–2027.
