Lane Cove Council partnering with University of Technology Sydney
Published on 03 June 2025
We’re excited to share the launch of a dynamic new multi-year collaboration between University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Lane Cove Council, as part of UTS’s Pathways to Societal Transition subject within the Transdisciplinary (TD) Electives Program.
This forward-thinking partnership will bring together UTS undergraduate students from a diverse range of disciplines to work in multi-disciplinary teams and tackle one of the defining questions of our time:
How can Australia’s digital and environmental transitions be designed to balance the needs of local communities and ecosystems with the nation’s growing demand for AI and cloud services?
About the Program
This subject is being designed and led by Bronwyn Cumbo, a Lecturer at UTS’s Transdisciplinary School. Bronwyn is a transdisciplinary social researcher, creative practitioner, and Research Affiliate with the Emerging Technologies Research Lab at Monash University.
Through this collaboration, students will have the opportunity to engage with real-world challenges facing local government, industry, and communities as they navigate the social and environmental impacts of digital infrastructure growth.
Co-Creating Learning Experiences
To launch the partnership, UTS and Lane Cove Council co-developed subject learning materials that bring this multi-layered issue into the classroom. Faculty staff visited key local sites, including an operating data centre, to better understand the challenges and opportunities surrounding digital infrastructure in urban communities.
We’re looking forward to seeing the ideas, innovation, and meaningful change this collaboration inspires in the years to come.
Stay tuned for updates as we follow this exciting journey!
