Wild Weather Alert - Heavy Rain and Coastal Winds Expected

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a severe weather warning for the Sydney metropolitan area, including Lane Cove, effective from Monday evening through Wednesday morning. A powerful low-pressure system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and hazardous surf conditions.

Key Points:

  • Heavy Rainfall: Widespread rain totals between 50 to 120 millimetres are anticipated, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 200mm. The heaviest falls are expected in the Hunter and Illawarra regions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Damaging Winds: Gusts up to 100 km/h are forecasted, particularly affecting coastal areas including Sydney, Wollongong, and Newcastle.

  • Hazardous Surf: A hazardous surf warning is in place from Port Macquarie to Batemans Bay. Residents are advised to avoid rock fishing, boating, and swimming during this period.

  • Secure outdoor items such as furniture, bins, and garden tools to prevent them from becoming projectiles.

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during peak weather conditions. If you must drive, exercise extreme caution and never drive through floodwaters.
