Monday 8 December, 6:15pm. Not My Shame

Not My Shame: A Memoir of Trauma, Taboos and the Path to Healing charts the extraordinary journey from silence to self-reclamation of Dr Martina Zangger. Abused in early childhood by two powerful men in Switzerland - her grandfather, a judge, and her uncle, a politician. Martina’s story is one of survival, courage, and the radical act of placing shame where it belongs: on the perpetrators, not the victims.

Martina migrated to Australia, carrying the weight of trauma and secrecy. Her search for healing led to the orbit of a charismatic Indian guru and then into a US cult, where exploitation replaced enlightenment. Desperate and adrift, Martina turned to sex work to fund her journey; a choice born of agency and desperation. Her story illuminates the deep intersections between trauma, power, and vulnerability, and that the human spirit can rise from the darkest place. Books available for purchase on the night.
