Skatepark Upgrade at Blackman Park

An artist's impression of the upgraded Blackman Park Skatepark
The skatepark is now open!

Blackman Park skatepark opened to all skaters at 2:30pm on Wednesday 24 April.

Exciting new features include a mini ramp, central spine, quarter pipe, tight quarter pipe, flat bank hip and mellow bank.

We’re building our brand new Blackman Park Skatepark.

The existing skatepark will be removed to make way for more challenging elements and an expanded size. Blackman Park Skatepark will be bigger and better than before, accommodating spectators and a range of skateboarders.

Works are now underway and are expected to be completed in Autumn.

During the works, the closest skateparks are in Meadowbank and Chatswood.

What's being built?

Following community consultation and draft concepts in February 2022, Council worked with the community to refine the features of the new facility.

The final concept was approved in March 2023 and a contractor appointed in late 2023.

Features of the exciting final concept include:

  1. Transition Style Typology - Participants favoured a transition style park with the inclusion of some street elements.
  2. Intermediate Skill Level - The design is has provision for skill progression, allowing for beginners through to advanced levels, noting that most current users are intermediate.
  3. Skate Vision- An interesting creative facility which is made of transition style obstacles that are unique and create flow; including a mini ramp, rationalised central spine, quarter pipe, tight quarter pipe, flat bank hip and mellow bank.
  4. User and Spectator Amenity – A space for spectators and different user groups with break out areas, a drinking fountain and shade.
  5. Iconic Elements and Local Identity - A range and choice of benefits and experiences that include active and passive recreation within a natural bushland setting.
  6. Safe Access – Anti-climb fence to north edge plus relocation of entry gate.

A public art sculpture will also be installed on site in the coming months.
