Opened in January 2026, Galuwa Recreation Centre is Lane Cove’s multi-sport and community facility. After more than 15 years of planning, consultation, design and construction, it represents a major milestone for sport, recreation and community life on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.
Name and Meaning The name Galuwa comes from the Sydney Aboriginal language meaning “to climb”, reflecting the centre’s purpose as a place for growth, activity and community connection.
What You’ll Find at the Centre Galuwa Recreation Centre offers a range of modern facilities designed for sport, health, leisure and community use:
Multi-sport courts: Eight courts in total - four indoor and four outdoor - suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, badminton and more.
Program and event spaces: Flexible rooms and halls for activities, classes, meetings, events and celebrations.
Golf amenities: The existing 9-hole golf course remains, complemented by a new Pro Shop and practice facilities.
Food and beverage areas: A bistro and outdoor dining spaces overlooking the golf course (with services expected to open mid-2026).
Parking and access: On-site parking, including accessible and active transport spaces.
Who Runs the Centre Sydney Sports Management Group (SSMG) has been appointed as the operator, bringing extensive experience in community recreation and facility management to ensure a welcoming environment for all users.
