Bella's Living Seawall

A powerful example of community-led environmental action is now part of Lane Cove’s foreshore.

The recently completed Living Seawall at Greenwich Point Wharf was inspired and championed by a passionate local primary school student, Bella. Determined to make a difference, Bella rallied her community and collected an incredible 725 signatures in support of the project - turning her vision into reality.

Living Seawalls are specially designed habitat panels that mimic natural shoreline features, creating shelter and surfaces for marine life such as fish, seaweeds, and invertebrates to thrive. Installed along the seawall, these panels help boost biodiversity and improve the health of Sydney Harbour.

What makes this project even more special is Bella’s hands-on involvement - she contributed to the design layout of the seawall, leaving a lasting mark on her local environment.

An interpretive sign will soon be installed on-site to help visitors learn more about the ecological benefits of Living Seawalls and why protecting our marine ecosystems matters.

This project was funded through Council’s Sustainability Levy and highlights the incredible impact of grassroots action - and how one young voice can inspire real change.
